Friend Christmas

Last night I co-hosted our annual friend Christmas! I love nothing more then sitting around with good friends while eating good food! Since our house isn’t big enough to hold 10 adults and 8 kids, I voluntold our friends Mike and Elisabeth to hold it at their home! The catch was I’d do most of the cooking! It’s wonderful when you have friends who are more like family and you can do things like that! (Thanks again guys!)

Mike and I make a great team in the kitchen, and with a little help from our spouses we came up with a great dinner menu!

The night started off with mulled wine, and appetizers

Mike makes some the most delishous bruschetta out there so that had to be on the menu! Jeff is lucky enough to have an green egg, and makes amazing jalapeño poppers! Spicy, creamy, smokey bacon! How could you say no to that! And what I call the piece de resistance, our shrimp tree!! My husband LOVES shrimp cocktails, this was just a bit fancier! And it was pretty easy to make too!

For dinner we had beef tenderloin, garlic mash potatoes, bacon roasted Brussel sprouts and a festive salad!

(Sorry no other dinner pictures)

Maybe because we always had big family dinners growing up, but there is something so comforting about sitting around the table with the ones you love! These friendships have been years in the making, so are over 15 years! We all have different interest, different parenting styles, live in different cities, but that doesn’t matter, friendship is way more than that! We support each other on new ventures, on going back to work, on leaving your job to stay home with the kids, on hobbies and even on parenting! I cannot get enough of quality time!!!

Christmas carols and quality time with friends ( did I mention we have some seriously musical friends!)

So as busy as this holiday week may be, remember to take time for the ones you love!! I’m looking to the new week filled with family time!!!

Merry Christmas!!!

Looking to 2016

Can you believe the year is almost over!?! I know people say it every year, but this year really has flown by! With 2016 just around the corner I thought I would share how my next year is shaping up!

FIRST big news; I am a proud new team member of NUUN Hydration! I feel so blessed and honoured to be part of the team!

Now onto my race plans!

  1. April 24: Waterloo Marathon! I am excited to finish my FIRST full in my home town!
  2. June 5: Run for Women 10km: this race is in support of mental health!
  3. June- the date has not been posted, but every year we as a family participate in the Brain Tumor Spring Sprint,  a cause very close to our hearts
  4. Septemeber 24- Harvest Half
  5. November 6- Road2Hope Marathon
  6. December10-Santa  Pursuit- the family race is on, my goal is to beat my husband!

And that my friends is my race calendar!! I am hoping to add a couple more fun runs in there, and am seriously considering a Try a Tri!! I’m notorious for last minute race registrations, so I’m sure the list will grow!

Can you believe Christmas is just 3 days away!! Enjoy the time with your families this season!

Santa Pursuit

I’m pretty lucky to come from an active family, and one that is filled with runners, or ones who are willing to race regardless of their feelings toward running!

My bro-in-law had mentioned doing a local Santa race, and I had been eyeing one where Santa suits were manditory!! So I gathered up my husband and youngest sister and we got ready to race!

Because I am the queen of procrastinating I missed online registration, so we headed to the start early to get us all registered! Luckily they had lots of spots and suits left!

We got geared up, and had some time to kill before the race started.

 Waiting for the start

Race started at 10am, and this mild weather we’ve been having was perfect for racing in.

I initially wanted to run together, but last mintue change, my bil and I started at a faster pace then my hubs and sis. Spoiler alert, Josh finished before me, by 30 secs.

It was a nice easy course, but as I haven’t been running very much at all lately I was a little off my game! We tried keeping about a 5min/km pace, that was really pushing it for me, by 3km I told my bil to go on a head without me. Around the 4km mark I was feeling pretty guilty that I didn’t didn’t stay with Josh and my sis, so I was planning on finishing and then going to meet them and run the end with them! My guilt didn’t last long!! Josh was at the finish waiting for me!! Our official times were only 30 secs apart!  So proud of my non runner husband!!! And I got a large dose of humility too!  My sis came in just under 2 mins after!

We all ended up having a blast and are planning on making it a Christmas tradition!! It was pretty awesome to be surrounded by over 600 Santas!

Mid-race, sorry for the hazy picture, but this is just a peak at the Santas running!

My 2015 race season is now officially over!! And am looking forward to what 2016 will bring!

With the Christmas season in full swing, I think it is so important to not get lost in the hustle and bustle! I know we have all heard it before, but we really should take time to remember the true meaning of Christmas!

Luke 2:1-20

“So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Our Savour, born in a lowly manger stall. Think about that for a minute. He didn’t even have a proper place to stay, yet that did not affect the greater story!

As busy as we are this season, don’t forget to take time to reflect, celebrate with those you love, the Prince of Peace came for all of us!!!

If you don’t know Jesus, and want to, get in touch with me, I would love to chat about it!

Training Tip

It’s hard to believe but not everyone loves running! Truth be told, I didn’t love the idea of running when I started, but I loved the peace I felt as soon as I got outside and started. And now it tops my list of my favourite things to do!!

If you want to run, or do yoga, or barre class, or whatever it is you are thinking about, just take that first scary step and do it!! The fear of the unknown, is often what holds me, and I am sure you, back from reaching our goals. Take that risk, take that class, and just remember that everyone has to start somewhere! We grown when we take those chances, when you push yourself out of your comfort zone amazing things can happen, even if you fail, you stand back up and try again!!

It’s only Tuesday! Get out there and take a risk!
